Your Parents and Technology
Uncategorized October 9th. 2011, 12:00amYour parents. They’re getting older and they know about as much on technology as you know about Backgammon and you’re worried they’re behind the times. If you want to get your folks back into the digital age try some of the following tips and tricks for teaching them the basics:
Get them internet at home: A lot of elderly adults don’t even have an internet connection at home which makes it even less likely they’ll familiarize themselves with the web. If you can, research wireless internet service for laptops and get your parents all set up.
Get them a smartphone: They’ve certainly got cell phones by now but if you get them a smartphone and show them how to use it they’re bound to get better at the web in general. Bonus: it will help familiarize them with buttons and touch screens.
Get them enrolled: Many universities and senior centers offer cheap classes on technology and they can really help when it comes to learning the basics. If your parents are willing, sign them up and even tag along.
